Heute vergleiche ich mal mein Lebensmittelmanagement-Studium an der Hochschule Weihenstephan-Triesdorf mit meiner Ausbildung in der Fleischerei Scheller in Hannover.
Die Vorlesungsunterlagen erarbeiten, Prüfungsfragen beantworten und Übungsaufgaben lösen zählen momentan neben den online-Vorlesungen zu meinen Hauptaufgaben. Wie solls anders sein, ist dabei der Stift eines der wichtigsten Dinge. Die Lösungsansätze aufs Blatt zu schmieren geht einfach manchmal schneller, als die Aufgaben auf dem Laptop zu lösen.
Mit der Hand schreiben hilft mir außerdem schon immer, mir Sachen besser einzuprägen. Mittlerweile tippe ich aber auch viele Zusammenfassungen, da schreiben ewig dauern würde. Zum Lernen von Begriffsdefinitionen sind mir aber immer noch die Karteikarten am liebsten – die müssen natürlich erstmal geschrieben werden.
Das Messer hingegen brauche ich zum Auslösen und Zuschneiden auf der Arbeit. Ich freue mich schon, wenn ich nach der ganzen Theorie endlich wieder mal für ein paar Wochen nur Praxis habe – mal abgesehen von der Berufsschule, aber ob man das als Theorie lernen verstehen kann sei mal dahingestellt. Klar gibt’s in der Ausbildungszeit auch immer was zu Lernen, aber da das meistens mit viel praktischer Arbeit verbunden ist prägt man sich die Schritte durch das ständige Wiederholen ganz einfach ein.
Da stellt sich jetzt die Frage, was mir lieber ist: Messer oder Stift?!
Ich bin der Meinung die Mischung machts, ständig Theorie wär mir zu langweilig und nur Praxis ohne den theoretischen Hintergrund wäre auch nichts für mich. Von dem her habe ich mich mit der Wahl meines dualen Studiums genau richtig entschieden, da ist die Abwechslung zwischen Theorie und Praxis schon im Studienplan festgelegt. In drei Wochen geht’s dann auch schon nach Hannover.
Pen vs Knife
I thought it’s time for another comparison. Today it’s about my studies at university of Weihenstephan-Triesdorf and my apprenticeship at the butcher shop Scheller in Hannover.
To work through the documents I got from university, answer the questions to the documents and try to solve the exercises is my main work at the moment aside of listening to online classes. A pen is one the most important thing in this process. It’s way faster to scribble solutions on paper than using excel sometimes. And as side effect it helps me to remember what I learned. Nevertheless, I am preparing lots of my material at my laptop as well, because it would take too much time to write it all by hand – but for definitions I prefer still having cards.
The knife is the most important thing at work for me. I need it for deboning meat, slicing steaks, cutting stir fry and all other works you can think of for which you need a knife. I am looking forward to having only practical work for some weeks – apart from school, but I am not sure if you can name this theory education. Sure, you have to learn lots of new works during the apprenticeship, but since it’s combined with practical work always it’s easier to memorize.
Well, the question if I like the pen or knife better comes up now?!
In my opinion it’s the combination of theory and practical work, because only one of both choices is boring. The theoretical background I get at university is very good to have a diverse knowledge about food. The switch of university to apprenticeship is determined in my study plan, which is the reason why I made this choice. It’s three weeks from now, until I go off to Hannover to go on with my apprenticeship.
